Write for us

Rural Arts Journal welcomes pitches that bring a clear, grounded perspective to art and creative practice beyond cities. Send proposals through the Contact page; a concise outline is more useful than a finished article attached without context.

What we welcome

Pitch an explanatory piece, a thoughtful comparison, a piece of cultural history or a practical account of a creative choice. Strong subjects have a defined question, a clear reader in mind and enough context to make the subject understandable beyond one venue or locality. We value specificity without treating one experience as universal.

What to include

Tell us the proposed subject, the main point you want readers to take away and why it suits this publication. Note the form you have in mind and any sources, images or permissions the piece would rely on. Disclose relevant commercial interests or relationships. Do not send confidential material or claim expertise you cannot substantiate.

How to send a proposal

Use the Contact page and choose the editorial option. A pitch is a proposal, not a promise of publication; we may ask for a different angle or further clarification. Please do not submit a full manuscript unless we have requested one.

Our point of view

Art changes with the place it inhabits

A field, a borrowed room and a village hall are not interchangeable backdrops. We look at what each makes possible, and what it asks of the work.
